RIP AOL While watching this YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JONhNZTE1U), I found out that AOL is going to shut down its dial-up service for good (and this time for real) on 2025-09-30. From https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/08/aol-will-finally-end-1991-dial-up-internet-service-thats-older-than-smartphones/ > "After decades of connecting Americans to its online service and the Internet through telephone lines, AOL recently announced it is finally shutting down its dial-up modem service on September 30, 2025. The announcement marks the end of a technology that served as the primary gateway to the World Wide Web for millions of users throughout the 1990s and early 2000s." The end of an era. BTW, do you still miss AIM? Well, there's NINA.chat which launched its AIM/OSCAR server to the public in 2024, allowing you to revive those old AIM clients (in my case AIM 4.x w/ DeadAIM to remove those annoying ads) and give them a new life after more than 20 years. Or if you prefer something over which you have total control, there's also this: https://github.com/mk6i/retro-aim-server -- http(s)://users.headcrab.party/~rails/
