GameTracker sucks nowadays Over the last five years, GameTracker has become a wasteland place, where most of the users manipulates statistics to boost servers to the top with fake players and adding a bunch of HLTVs/proxies on the servers lists, especially on the Half-Life server list (yeah I know, nothing new, but this has been intensifying even more in recent years). Even when you go to the homepage to search for servers, you often find users spamming servers every five seconds in the recent activity section (although there are certain moderators who try to ban them). Futhermore, it has been breaking down too much in recent years, with some notable examples being: * Server variables stopped updating since August 2024 (dunno if this has been fixed yet). > https://www.gametracker.com/forums/forum.php?site=1&post=491685 > https://www.gametracker.com/forums/forum.php?site=1&thread=200332 > https://www.gametracker.com/forums/forum.php?site=1&post=490101 * Senseless Cloudflare blocks (sometimes I get a "You have been blocked for accessing gametracker.com" error for some weird reason). * Avatars not updating correctly (sometimes its justs return to the old version of the image, probably a cache-related thing). * Leaderboard scores being disabled due to some weird bug and the only way to fix it was to remove and readd the server, losing your rank position and related data in the process (happened some time in 2024). * Cannot remove players from leaderboard (it will says that such action was done successfully but after refreshing the player is still there, bruh). * Dunno if this is a bug, but when you try to upload a new version of a map image, it ends up being rejected for no apparent reason. Although the sole active moderator (chimaera500) says that GT is still receiving minor updates and that he's trying to do his best for the site, the truth is that this site looks like it has been abandoned completely since 2019 (I have never seen any new feature or even a new game being added to the list since such year) and that is still alive just because of the ads and GameServers.com. Because if not, it would have closed long ago by just looking at the current state of the site. Also, every so often I see bots that appear to use ChatGPT posting junk on the forums, and those posts remain there for months (sometimes under very old accounts, which leads me to believe that someone is brute forcing them). For this and many other reasons, I have decided to get rid of this annoying site once and for all. I currently prefer to use QuakeStat and doing a little of PHP or simply self-host LGSL to track my gameservers instead of relying on these increasingly outdated services. I have so much more to say about GT, but I'd rather keep it to myself and not "mess" with anyone else. EDIT: I forgot to mention that there was a time when, as soon as you added a server to GameTracker and tried to claim it, some weird spambot would claim it too and it replaces all your server's high scores with a lot of fake players promoting a certain CS 1.6 server that I won't mention here. It was fixed a long time ago, but I still wonder how the hell they managed to do it. That happened to me once when I added my SC 3.0 server to GT a while ago. The only way to fix that was to clear all the players scores or else removing them manually (which was a pain in the ass to do). -- http(s)://users.headcrab.party/~rails/
